Properly Install Your Child’s Car Seat
At Barnes Crossing Kia, we want to keep drivers safe and secure in any vehicle they may choose. Most importantly, we cherish the safety of children. The following will provide valuable information on the proper installation of a car seat.
Installing the Seat
First and foremost, read all instructions that are included with your car seat. You’ll no doubt be instructed that the back seat is the safest location for a child. Late model vehicles are often designed with anchors specifically for car seats. In older vehicles the seat belts are used to secure the seat. Each method is safe; do not use both at the same time.
Pull the anchor strap or seat belt through the designated area in the base of the car seat. Next, press down on the seat to apply weight and tighten the strap or belt. Finally, apply the “Inch Test” to ensure the seat is secured. When properly installed, a car seat should not be able to move more than one inch in any direction.
With a rear-facing seat, be sure to check for the correct angle of the seat. An angle indicator or level should be visible on the seat itself. Proper angle ensures maximum safety.
