The Kia Sorento is a mid-size SUV that's bigger than the Sportage and smaller than the Telluride. It comes with a premium cabin that gives you and your family plenty of room. This three-row SUV has space for up to seven people and it comes with quite a few standard features. The Sorento offers you a choice of four different powertrains and two of them are hybrids. The pure hybrid gives you the savings of electrification without the complexities of charging and a short driving range. The pure hybrid will also deliver more acceleration and outstanding fuel efficiency. Here's a high-level look at the new Kia Sorento and Sorento hybrid models that are available at Barnes Crossing Kia in Saltillo, MS.
Powertrains and performance options
The new Sorento gives you a bigger choice of powertrains than other mid-size SUVs and it's available with either front- or all-wheel drive. The standard choice is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower or you can move up to a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 281 horsepower. The Sorento hybrid consists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder gas engine along with an electric motor to create a combined 227 horsepower. The gas-powered Kia Sorento has a maximum towing capacity of 4,000 pounds.
The plug-in hybrid uses the same engine and gives you a combined 261 horsepower thanks to a more powerful electric motor. The key drawbacks of the plug-in hybrid are that you get only 32 miles of electric-only driving range and it takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge the battery. The more convenient gas-powered X-Pro trim, new for 2024, is offered exclusively with a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and it includes a center locking differential along with all-terrain tires.
Fuel economy
The base level 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine in the new Sorento gets an estimated 23 MG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. The 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is more powerful and gives you ratings of 20 miles with every gallon in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. The pure hybrid version of the Sorento gives you the strongest fuel efficiency coming in at 39 MPG on city streets and 35 MPG on the highway.
Interior highlights
When you step inside the cabin, you'll see upscale materials and first-rate build quality. There are two upright air vents on either side of the dashboard and the overall design is simple and understated. Stitched surfaces located on the door panels and seat inserts help create a more premium look. There are a number of cubby storage spots and cupholders that will accommodate your family in style.
In terms of storage space, you'll find 38.5 cubic feet of room when you fold down the third row, and a very helpful 73.5 cubic feet when both back rows are folded down. There's enough room to store a small piece of furniture or a bicycle. For extra convenience, get the available hands-free power liftgate.
